Girls tennis placed second out of eight schools in the Northern Lake County Conference.

“Our most outstanding moment was getting second at Conference because it was the end of our season and showed off all the hard work we put in this year,” said junior Emily Miller.

Coach Jill Tomasello, who grew up playing tennis, looked back over the team’s accomplishments and how the season was an overall success for them.

“[We placed] second in our conference tournament, and [we beat] Vernon Hills for the first time in our program’s history,” Tomasello said.

The team won against Vernon Hills 6-1 in their first ever victory against the opposing team. The girls on the team still face frustrations and troubles during their time on the team.

“I get frustrated all the time like many other players. Tennis is a sport that requires being as much in shape mentally as physically. Playing over the years has taught me to keep my cool even in the hardest of matches,” Miller said.

The team is satisfied with their overall improvement from last year’s season, according to  Lucy Dalton.

“The season went well and was a huge improvement from our season last year. The team also got along really well, which made it very fun,” Dalton said.

The team getting along with each other played a huge role in their performance and their playing as a whole this season.

“I am proud of how close we have all grown over such a short season and how we all became friends through our love for tennis,” Miller said.

Overall, the girls tennis team is looking forward to next season. Coach Tomasello wants the girls to realize one thing when it comes to playing tennis, though.

“[The challenging part of tennis is] having athletes realize that as much as tennis is an individual sport, it is still a team sport too,” Tomasello said.
