The boys track team started off the season with cancelled outdoor track meets, but the team is still motivated and prepared for their next meets to come.

Head coach Matthew Zaluckyj has been coaching track for five years but has been head boys coach for boys for three. The boys track team competed during the indoor season and got fifth in the indoor conference.

“We finished fifth at the indoor conference meet and will hope to be in the top three at the outdoor meet,” Zaluckyj said.

Coach Zaluckyj enjoys coaching the track team because it gives students a chance to grow and improve as an athlete.

“It’s a sport that gives every athlete a chance to compete and to excel. You can see athletes make tremendous improvements from year to year,” Zaluckyj said.

Varsity track runner Logan Williams started the outdoor season by hitting a new personal record of 53.9 secs. for the 400 meter dash. William’s next goal is to beat his own PR on the next couple outdoor meets to come.

“My goal is to break 52.5 on the 400 meter and 3.34 seconds on the 4 by 4,” Williams said.
William’s hopes to make All-Conference for track by not only working hard but being dedicated to the sport.

“I want to improve this year, and to not only improve but to hopefully make All-Conference for track,” Williams said.

Thrower Ryan Bernstein also started off strong by breaking a school record for shot put with a throw of 51’ 4.”

Bernstein surpassed the record held by previous North coach David Anderson. This year is his favorite year running track because of the amount of work he’s put in and his record-breaking throw.

“This year was my favorite season because my teammates pushing me and showing everyone I can still excel,” Bernstein said.

Ryan Bernstein hopes he makes State this year for shot put, and he looks to be on his way now holding on to a school record.

“I want to make State this year because last year I made it into Sectionals and got second place” Bernstein said
