“Midnight Sun” is a movie about a girl with a very rare genetic disorder that makes going out in the sun deadly to her.

The movie reminded me of another movie called “Everything, Everything” in the sense that the main character, Katie (Bella Thorne) can’t leave her house because of her disorder. The main character doesn’t leave her house during the day, but she does at night when the sun is down and that’s where she meets Charlie (Patrick Schwarzenegger).

Charlie doesn’t know about her disorder and they fall in love. The movie’s romantic scenes are kind of cliché; boy falls for girl and they have big outrageous dates while uplifting music plays in the background. In the beginning, I was thinking ‘why did I pay to see this? This is dumb,’ but at the end I was a little shocked, to say the least.

The movie has a great twist that I didn’t see coming. If you’re a fan of unexpected endings, then this is a movie for you. That is, if you can stick through the cliché parts.

What I found interesting was Katie’s disorder, xeroderma pigmentosum (XP). I had never heard of a disease that makes even the smallest amount of sunlight deadly. If you can get through the cliché areas, “The Midnight Sun” is a movie worth seeing. In conclusion, I ended up enjoying the movie and would recommend to a friend.
