Green Room is starting the 2017-2018 school year with their performance of All My Sons on October 26-29. The show is about the Keller family and their story post World War II. Kate Keller, played by Shaye Hutson, is awaiting her youngest son who has yet to come home from the war. The eldest son has returned and is getting used to life outside the Army. A lot of work is going into the show and the actors’ understanding of it historically and contextually.

“We’re looking at a lot of smaller parts of the show, so we’re looking at what does the scene mean? What is the objective behind each character? How are they going to win their objective over? A lot of character driven things and we’ve talked a lot about the time period of the show,” said director Clare McConville.

The show’s focus is on the Keller family and the troubles they go through. The common theme for them is finding out the truth.

“This show is really all about the truth. It’s about that lie we all tell ourselves every day and facing the truth that we know in our hearts. Each character has a lie that they hold onto, a facade that keeps them afloat. And slowly, as the play progresses, those facades fall away and we are left with the truth,” said actor Nicholas Ang, who plays Dr. Jim Bayliss.

As always, the cast and crew are putting in all their effort to make a top notch show.  Students work very hard to make a production that everyone can enjoy.

“I always try to help out as best I can in tech and try to do my best on the stage. I try my hardest to provide as much support as I can, in tech, morally and mentally. It’s a stressful time, and sometimes people need someone to tell them to take a break every now and then,” Ang said.

Green Room is always open to taking in new members whether or not they have theater experience. There are two more shows to audition for this year. Anyone can go down to the Black Box to find out how.

“I love theater, and I’ve always loved theater since I was little. I did it in middle school, and so when I came here, it was natural to continue in high school,” said crew member Neilla Janssen.

Be sure to check out the show and head to the Black Box for information on theater activities and future shows.
