Music Boosters organized the Color-A-Thon to help raise money for students going on the Disney trip and Band Camp in the upcoming school year.

“We started to prepare for the event in January, but we set the date for this year’s event shortly after last year’s Color-A-Thon as we thought was such a fun and successful event we wanted to do it again,” said Mike Silverberg, Music Booster chair.

The choir and band students usually start fundraising in early March. The most money any student has ever raised was $520.

“Every member in the band is included in this event. Whether it is running, cleanup crew, or set up, together we all do our part in creating a fun day. The day wouldn’t be possible without the music boosters who help organize the event,” said sophomore Camryn Arroyo

With a total of 140 participants last year, the Band Boosters are always looking to increase the amount of people.

“Over two-hundred people came from the school and community. We raised over three thousand dollars for the band, and we all had a lot of fun doing it,” said sophomore Danielle Lacke.

The Color-A-Thon was hosted here at Grayslake North on school property. The 5K course was set up around the school for students to follow.

“We host the Color-A-Thon at North as we have set up a 5k course around the school and on the back fields. We use the entire perimeter of the school campus. The participants’ run/walk through two color stations on each of the two laps that they will participate in, Silverberg said.

The color-a-thon is a relatively new activity/fundraiser. The event had a very successful turnout last year.

“This is a fun event many students look forward to throughout the year. It really helps us raise money for our travels, as well as come together and enjoy a beautiful spring day. I hope it continues to be successful and enjoyable to those who attend,” Arroyo said.
