The varsity cheerleading
team is in full swing and as
competition season quickly
approaches with their first competition
on December 7.
Last year, the varsity cheerleaders
made it to State.
“We finished seventh in the
state last year,” Garza said.
There are many things the
cheerleaders have to do to prepare
for the competition season.
“We practice and do choreography
to help get ready to
be able to perfect our routine,”
said senior Mia Hassan.
The team has many goals
that they would like to achieve.
“Our goal is to make it to
State,” said freshman Lauren
Magri.
Not only does the team as a
whole hope to improve, but so
do the individual cheerleaders
themselves.
“My goal this season is to
have the best season ever and
enjoy everything because most
of it will be my last,” Hassan
said.
Last year, the varsity cheer
team alone lost eight seniors,
but with a new year comes a
new freshman class, exhibiting
unique skills the team has not
seen yet.
“I would tell the incoming
freshmen to start working
now. Even if tryouts are not
until April, start stretching,
tumbling, and conditioning,”
Magri said.
For some, cheer will stop
after high school.
“I have considered staying
involved with cheer, but I think
college is going to be the next
chapter in my life,” Hassan said.
Others would like to continue
after high school.
“I would like to think that I
would still be involved in cheer
even if it’s just coaching a cheer
team,” Magri said.
Everyone has a favorite
part of the season.
“My favorite part of every
year is starting with a brand
new team, a group of very different
individuals, and then
watch them grow and change as
the year goes on to become one
solid force that works together,”
Garza said.
